This simple Shiphrah and Puah origami craft is a lovely puzzle to play with when made. It has 3 images to reveal, the words, the midwifes and the superheroes. |
To make this craft you will need a pair of scissors and the PDF printout. The full colour template includes colour backgrounds to identify different pictures more clearly and help with folding, if you have a teen or pre-teen group the best results are with the reduced colour template. Start by adding any colour if needed and cutting out the large square. |
Fold the square in half diagonally with the ink on the inside, corner to corner to make a big triangle. Open up and repeat the other way. Don’t worry if you fold everything the wrong way, just fold both ways instead! |
Open out again and fold each corner into the middle, still with the ink on the inside, the folds should create more little triangles. |
Lets repeat the process with rectangles. Working with the ink on the OUTSIDE now fold the fully opened square in half down the middle to form a rectangle. Rotate and repeat. |
Open out again and fold one edge into the middle to form a long thin rectangle, rotate and repeat for all 4 edges. |
Now comes the tricky bit. Each flat side needs to be folded into the centre. Fold one side then fold back the corner and fold the next side – you’ll know you are correct because the image will line up! |
When all four sides are done it will leave you with what looks like a pinwheel |
Open out each corner and flatten it down. The image of Shiphrah and Puah should appear as the corners come together. |
Discover the other pictures as you play with the folds. ps. I used sticky tack for the pictures to hold the images flat, kids small hands may need a bit of practice to hold an image open so they can view it all! |
