Stephen (Acts 7) | Worksheet

Stephen-Worksheet
This worksheet about Stephen is suitable for all age groups, there is very little writing, some small images to draw, and a puzzle. The worksheet will work best printed in colour.

The sheet starts with a time of discussion. the five gifts are gifts that we can give, be they tangible gifts, actions, or attitudes. The puzzle below is about finding combinations of gifts. A sub theme to this lesson is looking at how skills combine, if Stephen had not had the combination of gifts he had, then he would probably have not been such an obvious target.

Stephen (Acts 7) | Story

If you want the teacher sheet then click HERE

Stephen is today’s Bible hero because he showed us the gift of Sacrifice.

Essential Teachers notes:
This story of Martyrdom is a difficult topic for some children, Stephen is also a difficult character, because of his sacrifice he is often portrayed as perfect, there is not a questionable or negative aspect to his character, and yet we know he was only human.

The biblical passage is long as it contains the great words of wisdom, it was aimed at a Jewish nation and presumes knowledge of Jewish history and law. There are parallels to the crucifixion story with unfair trails, ultimate death, and bi-passing Roman law. That being said the state of martyrdom is far from gone 2 thousand years later and this story must portray that in order to be relevant to today’s children.

Main Passage : Acts 7
Additional passage : Acts 6 + 8

Stephen (Acts 7) | Games

The hero in this story is Stephen, he is part of the ‘founders’ series as he gave to the early church. Please note this lesson is not about the deacons, that is a separate character.

Target practice – take a few cups, boxes and other containers and make a target range. attach scores to the different containers and give the children soft ammo to trow into the various targets. you can spit your children into teams or just play that the highest score wins. Refer back to the game later discussing how the stones thrown at Stephen would have had a human target.

Bit it – sometimes the gifts we get, and the jobs we have are unpleasant. In the same way you play pass the parcel sit the children in a circle. Pass round a piece of fruit and when the music stops the child must take a bite (check for allergies first), slowly add more fruit and vegetables to the circle. Try and use harder fruit and veg, add ‘not so lovely’ on the last round, the children can decide to bite or not!
Nicer- Apple, carrot, bell pepper, cucumber, radish, runner bean,
Not so lovely – potato, banana with skin, & onion.

Plan Realistically (planning kid ministry 01)

“Organising is what you do before you do something, so that when you do it, it is not all mixed up.” A.A. Milne

We have all been there, the Saturday night when you are just about to drift to sleep and you realise with a jolt you are doing the kids work in the morning and you don’t even know what bible passage is!

you have 2 choices…wing it, or hope the just add water style material gives you all the answers.

Planning is important, it makes a huge difference to the lesson both for those leading and those participating. Just because someone had prepared your material doesn’t mean you are off the hook. So this this the first of a series to help you plan effectively and simply.

The first thing you need to do is be realistic in your planning. Sort out the practical things and your automatically start to see what activities and teaching methods need to be used. If you don’t know rough answers to these questions you are planning in the dark. …continue reading about Plan Realistically (planning kid ministry 01)
