Little James (Luke 6) | Craft 1

This is one of those simple ideas that can be such a good tool for discussion, play, and learning. These little body flip books are easy to make and can be used again and again for reminding yourself of the disciples. Each character is split into 3 parts (head, upper body, lower body) and they are jumbled on the pages you print them so you need to complete the craft to make the images. Split it into 2 books of 6 apostles or one big one. there is even a guide to match name to image on the back cover!

Use this as a game (find your apostle) or cut up the template to make micro jigsaws that can be used as a basic puzzle activity or combined with a sort of treasure hunt.

Rather than give you one huge file to print I’ve split up the pages, choose the ones you want and equip yourself with some scissors and glue too! You need the characters and the cover(s).

For printing in Colour
PDF of jumbled characters
PDF of 2 covers if you want 2 books of 6 apostles (easier and good for groups)
PDF of cover – if you want all 12 apostles in 1 book (older kids & 3 per page)
PDF of characters not jumbled if you only want to use some character images and not others
For printing with no Colour
PDF of jumbled characters
PDF of 2 covers if you want 2 books of 6 apostles (easier and good for groups)
PDF of cover if you want all 12 apostles in 1 book (older kids & 3 per page)
PDF of characters not jumbled if you only want to use some character images and not others

Once you have your pages printed cut them up. Remember to leave the block to the left of the characters in one piece! Children may find it easier to fold the edge before cutting between the character pieces.

Onto folding, fold along the lines that separate the character tabs and the side piece. Also fold the cover in both in half and along the 2 black lines.

Now comes the gluing. If you are in a real rush 2 paperclips at the top and bottom will work, but gluing is easy and much prefered. Add some glue to the back cover between the central fold and the other fold. Then using the other fold as a guide glue your first Apostle piece in place – you’ll notice this is not along the spine.

Add glue to the first Apostle piece and stick down the second, fold the tabs of the first back to make sure they are not trapped. Repeat until you run out of Apostle pieces and glue down the front cover.

If you have used wet glue you may want to make sure you can make all the characters and that the pieces haven’t slid at this point, if not then you’re done!

Want to use this craft for the Matthias lesson?

Note:
It’s a little smaller and you can group into 2 books by splitting the page in half horizontally.
