‘I will make you fishers of men’ is iconic of itself. Here Jesus takes the everyday of the four men’s lives and transforms it radically. This spinning boats catch fills their nets with fish and then men, it’s super simple and suitable for any age group.
Jesus calls the first four disciples, and they drop everything to follow him, to become ‘fishers of men’. It’s a passage oh so familiar, but one that needs context to understand fully. This craft looks at that context using a mirror, reminding us that to fully see the picture, we need to see the background as well.
To make this craft, you will need the 1-page template printout, a mirror, scissors, and glue. I would strongly recommend a push pin and ruler for scoring too.
Score along all the straight inner lines on 3 of the pieces if you are scoring.
Cut out all the shapes.
Fold up each piece apart from the base – all the folds go the same way.
Glue together to make a triangular tube.
Find the letter side of your tube and the corresponding letter placement on the base.
Glue onto the base.
Repeat until all three pieces are in place.
Check your image is in the correct order by viewing at an angle.
To be sure, repeat in the other direction!
Now place the edge against a mirror and view the whole picture.

John the Baptist, the great voice calling out, is a picture of humility. He knows that even untying the sandals of Jesus is above his station. This craft makes a sandal from a single sheet of paper. It’s a good craft for school children, though it can be a little time-consuming to cut the intricate shape.
This John the Baptist craft makes a simple dove from two strips of paper. It’s a perfect craft for younger kids, and a selection could make a stunning hanging display.
This is a more traditional craft for John the Baptist, it gives the wonderful illusion of water by using baking parchment to give the semi transparent quality of the river. It’s a basic craft for any age.
To make this craft, you will need the 1-page template printout, scissors, baking paper and some paper glue. (Use double-sided tape if you are in a rush.)
If using a template with colour, then add that first – it’s important to add colour to the water area below the line. Then cut out the background and Jesus graphic.
Measure and cut two strips of baking parchment – these need to be at least the width of the background and the height of the water.
Cut a gentle wavy line along the top of the baking parchment pieces. Doing this 2 at a time is fine, just flip the piece later.
Add glue to the lower three sides of the water.
Add your first piece of baking parchment over the top of John the Baptist, making sure to leave his shoulders and head uncovered.
Glue Jesus on top of the background and baking parchment.
Add the second piece of baking parchment.
You can add extra decoration at this point. Here I added some swirls and waves with a white pencil.
Once the glue is dry, turn your scene over so it’s easier to see the edges of the paper, and trim any excess from around the edge.

This John 1 logos activity is a simple alternative to a craft and can be used as a logic puzzle. It ties into John 1 where Jesus is described as ‘The Word’ or, as John would have written, ‘Logos’. I’ve tried to keep to a style of lettering that was similar to what may have originally been penned.
To make this craft, you will need the 1-page template printout and scissors. You may also want glue to secure your final combination.
If you have older kids, slice the paper so they can’t see the solution and hand out just the odd shaped pieces. Add some colour if you wish, then cut out all the pieces.
The challenge is to reform the puzzle, the easiest way to do this is to reform it on the background as shown
Alternatively, reform it separately using the background as a guide. This is slightly harder than working on top, and can be achieved by placing the background on a separate table.
The hardest level is to simply hand out the pieces and see who can put them together without knowing what the puzzle forms.

This John 1 candle craft ties into John 1:5 “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” The craft jumps out of the page and is made entirely from a single sheet printout.
