Gideon’s battle was won with a tiny army because he kept dividing and sending home many of his men. This craft reinforces that idea of dividing up by constantly breaking apart the folding cube.

To make it easier for you to see I’ve made the images using blocks I’ve taken from a toy train. You could use any sort of wooden, plastic or solid block. The prototype (image at the end) was made with Styrofoam cubes painted yellow.

You can chose to use all six images or only use some of them if you are pushed for time.

The most iconic things about Gideon are his fleece and his trumpet. Trumpets are just more fun! We loved this craft and it was really easy to make.

This trumpet craft uses Styrofoam as it’s base and attaches party blower to the back. If you don’t have any flat Styrofoam any thick material would work as long as it doesn’t bend easily. If all you have is card then make two shapes and sandwich them each side of the party blower.

We really enjoyed this craft for school aged children. Taking the idea that God is with us day and night we used stamps to decorate a day / night image.

The images I used for each stamp were drawn freehand, but the background image is available as a jpeg at the end of the post.

The lepar being healed is only one part of the story, the saying thank you is the point that the children need to take home, but for the craft we focus on the visual transformation.

This craft can be made 3 ways, dependant on your resources. Images for craft at end of post.

First option : lamination

Print out on paper one copy of the hero image for reference. Print image 1 (healed leper) onto paper or card and laminate. Hand out dry markers / chalk markers / felt tips, or whatever you are using. Get the children to draw the sores on their laminated leper. During prayer time explain that no matter what marks us, Jesus has the power to make us clean, just like he healed the leper. Give the children wet-wipes and let them wipe their images clean. If there is time left let them play decorating and redecorating their craft.

Second option : Spinners

Print out both images on card, or back images on card stock. Stick the images back to back taking care to line up the positions. Punch a hole at the left and right hand side of the images. Use string or wool to make 2 loops and attach to the holes. Holding on loop on each hand, spin / wind the image by spinning in a circle. Pull the threads to see the spots appear on the leper, when you stop they disappear. (more…)

This is one of two boats made for peter and his friends. It’s a larger version and can be made with or without the sail.

I will be using the boats template printout which is available by clicking on the image, it contains both boat templates so if you want instructions for page 1 then see this post HERE. Again, it can be printed on thin card-stock or scrapbook paper, but for the demonstration I’ve left it on plain white.

This is one of two boats made for Peter and his friends. It’s a small version and can be made with or without the sail or end-seat insert – though with both it does look rather cute. it’s more sturdy than the bigger boat if you want to use it for games.

I will be using the tree template printout, but you can draw your own if you would rather. Mine can be found by clicking on the image. be prepared to put in some time with the craft knife as it can be a slow job to cut out all the trees for a large group.

You will need scissors, scalpel (optional), thick card, pencil, craft glue or double sided tape, printout, printout or wooden shape of Zacchaeus, and green tissue paper.

Again, remember, there are a few ‘Mary’s Perfume’ linked make posts. The craft you chose will probably probably depend as much on the make-up of your group as the resources you can find.

If you are working with the lesson card then this one ties into the symbol of a crown.

I’ve included some crown designs, but you can easily draw your own. They can be found in pdf form here.

crown craft You will need printouts, scissors, stapler, elastic, sticky tape, and things to decorate – pencils, pens, craft glue, glitter, beads, stamps, stickers, any thing you can find!

Crowns are such fun and easy to make, you can make small ones for dolls, large ones for humans, even giant ones that go round the whole room. The images show some simple designs to get you started. Print or trace onto sturdy card and cut out for younger children in advance.
